The video game studio Jagex is well-known for its massive RS Gold series, but many may not know that the studio is expanding its services to include publishing and even tabletop gaming.

Jagex recently announced that it has signed a deal with indie developer Outlier Games to publish the debut game by the studio, the spaceship management game This Means Warp. The game is set to be available for PC via Steam Early Access on March 17.

With replayability and multiplayer in mind, this Means Warp encourages players to play together and to think strategically in chaotic, real-time space battles, and use shrewd strategies in order to navigate their ship through the hostile, procedurally created universe.

The game draws inspiration from roguelikes like FTL and games for parties like Overcooked this Means Warp sees players control crew members onboard a ship, manning different equipment, aiming weapons and conducting repairs, ultimately charting a course through the dangerous spacevoid.

For more information about Jagex's publication of This Means Warp, we asked Outlier Games' founders Paul Froggatt and Matt Rathbun, and Lead Product Manager at Jagex, Robert Fox-Galassi on their thoughts on this new partnership.

Like most indie developers, our beginnings in the games business was through tinkering with game concepts and programming over a long period of time before deciding to create something that was playable!

I have 10 years' experience working at Google before deciding to switch to game development full-time, and Matt's job includes the creation of Hollywood computer systems for film sets, and a brief stint in South Korean esports and mobile game development. We're thrilled to share the progress we've made with This Means Warp.

Many a video game has encouraged aspiring developers to make their own. But it's rare to have an inspired work picked up by the company behind the original title.

This, however, was the case for Brendan Malcolm, the one-man team at Australian producer Games By Malcs, whose idle RPG Melvor Idle is currently being released by Jagex, the creator of RuneScape which is a game which was the primary motivation for his own game.

Melvor Idle strips away the 3D graphics and environments of
Buy RS 2007 Gold and similar MMOs and distills it down to a menu-based idle game in which players can manage their abilities, inventory and quests. Engaging in combat and winning awards XP and loot that can then be placed into the improvement tree or skill tree players wish to purchase, while repeating actions such as crafting and cutting wood yields benefits.
